Study Shows Children Bond Deeper with Pets Than Siblings, Enhancing Emotional Growth

Recent research reveals that children derive greater satisfaction from their pets than from siblings, fostering stronger relationships and better interactions. This growing body of evidence highlights pets' profound role in children's development, boosting social skills and emotional well-being.

Pets are nearly as prevalent as siblings in Western households, yet few studies explore child-pet bonds. Researchers surveyed 12-year-old children from 77 families with multiple children and at least one pet. While boys and girls reported equal satisfaction, girls described more disclosure, companionship, and conflict with pets, suggesting deeper, more nuanced interactions.
