Dog waste on streets remains one of the biggest frustrations in the Netherlands. According to a 'dog poop poll' by the Royal Dog Protection, nearly 80% of dog owners are irritated by fellow owners who fail to clean up. The same percentage report always picking up their dog's waste in urban areas, backed by various municipal surveys. Additionally, 70% feel municipalities aren't doing enough to support cleanup efforts.
"Cleaning up after your dog is essential—for the pet's and owner's sake, as well as public health," says Just de Wit of the Royal Dog Protection. "It ensures dogs stay welcome in cities, forests, and shared recreational spaces," de Wit adds.
Proper cleanup also curbs disease risks. Animal feces, including from dogs and cats, can harbor roundworms. If larvae infect humans—especially children—it poses serious health threats.
