How to Check If the Ground Is Too Hot for Your Dog's Paws: A Simple 5-Second Test

This summer, the Netherlands is facing prolonged warm weather, with another heatwave ahead. Our pets suffer in the heat just like we do, but they can't tell us. As responsible pet owners, it's up to us to protect them and ensure their comfort and safety.

A key concern during walks is pavement temperature. Asphalt and sidewalks heat up fast and hold onto that warmth. Shoes shield our feet, but dogs' paws are vulnerable. Test it yourself: Press the back of your hand flat against the ground for five seconds. If it's too hot for your skin, skip the walk—it's too hot for their paws.

Instead, choose grass or head to a park. Always carry fresh water to keep your dog hydrated and prevent overheating.
