As spring approaches, many dogs enter their annual moulting season. The thick winter undercoat sheds to make way for a lighter summer coat, leading to noticeable hair around the home for up to eight weeks, depending on the breed. This natural process is triggered by longer daylight hours, which stimulate shedding hormones in preparation for warmer weather. While you can't stop moulting entirely, consistent grooming from experienced pet care professionals can significantly reduce loose hair. Here's how to handle it effectively:
Start with thorough brushing. Regardless of whether your dog has a long or short coat, daily brushing is the most effective way to control shedding. Brush until no loose hairs remain, ideally outdoors to minimize mess indoors.
Follow up with a pet-safe shampoo and conditioner bath. Gently massage the shampoo into the coat to loosen undercoat, rinse thoroughly, then apply conditioner, massage again, and rinse completely. Always choose products formulated specifically for dogs to protect their sensitive skin.
